"The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary." ~ H.L. Mencken

July 3 marks the 150th anniversary of a three day battle at Gettysburg during the War of Federal/Northern Aggression that resulted in more than 50,000 casualties. The reason that the people of California can vote for medical marijuana, set in place a formal state distribution system and still have state legal growers, distributors, and users raided by the DEA and prosecuted under federal law is because the south lost the war. It wasn't about slavery. That was already well on its way to being abolished. The war was primarily about the balance between federal and state power, as well as the control of resources. When the south lost, we all lost. California offers a prime example of that. The people voted to legalize and the federal government chooses to overrule their decision, rescinding their say over the laws that govern them. That is not how this nation was set up to run. But, since they did win the War of Federal Aggression, run this way it will... until next time.
