Force

I was reading an article about Halloween costumes for pets.  It said, "These pets [shown in the photos] like wearing costumes, but yours may not.  Never force your pet to do something it does not want to do."  Does that advice apply equally to humans, or just to animals?

Few animal lovers would disagree with that advice -- for animals. Almost no one would disagree that they, personally, do not like to be coerced. But somehow the idea that the State has the right to, and SHOULD, push everyone around coercively goes unchallenged. At this stage, just getting the idea out there that maybe State coercion isn't a good thing is enough to qualify as mind-expanding.
