"The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary." ~ H.L. Mencken
Deafening Liberal Silence as the Senate Moves to Extend the Patriot Act
“One senator, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), who would like to “sunset the entire PATRIOT Act and protect American civil liberties,” delivered a speech on the Senate floor in defense of freedom and privacy in America. What the PATRIOT Act has done, explained Paul, is “taken away some of the protections of the Fourth Amendment.” Under the Fourth Amendment, the government must “name the person and place to be searched.” Those protections are gone.” Well, you know what they say… if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all. And, what nice could big government worshipping liberals (or, for that matter, the vast majority of politicians) have to say about liberty? A politician supporting liberty decreases his own power and reduces the privileges and benefits of his position, which is why most of them – overtly or covertly -- support such freedom infringing and unconstitutional legislation as the Patriot Act.
