"The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary." ~ H.L. Mencken
Don’t Call Me, I Won’t Call You
(NYT, Free Reg Req)I’ve been in this flow for quite a while now. The only people who call me or that I call (outside of absolute have to, such as dealing with the phone company) and actually talk to on the phone are my immediate family and a friend or two close enough to fall under the heading of immediate family. Everything else… e-mail or voicemail. Sometimes, if I have to (as opposed to want to) call someone, I deliberately choose the time most likely to get their voicemail to make my call, so I can accomplish the task without having to actually speak to anybody for real.
