This article is a good example of why I enjoy your site. I don't agree with everything I read here. But for every thousand editorials opposed to my view on one side (let's call it the Liberal/Conservative Spectrum) your site offers one of the very few viewpoints on the "other side." It gives me hope. Since the war started, my blogging has kicked into high gear. I find myself spending increasingly more time searching the web for sources that give me (and, hopefully, some other people) hope. This exercise has given me a better appreciation for the work you do daily. I don't know how you maintain such an awesome site and hold down a job. Working on STR seems to be a full-time job. For me, STR is more than a news and commentary site. It represents a pure philosophy--one that encourages cooperation and slams coercion. It's a relatively simple notion that is not widely practiced. Like you said, "The great thing about a website is that unlike a war, if you don't like it, no one forces you to participate in it or pay for it." Right on, my friend!

This past weekend, I was at Front Sight again. I told you last year of a Front Sight employee who spotted my Strike The Root T-shirt and told me he really enjoyed the site. I saw him again this year at the check-in table the very first morning, and he introduced me to his nearby coworkers and he also plugged STR. Way cool. I wore my STR T-shirt on the second day. A handful of people commented, "Hey, that's a great site!" One fellow and I had a nice exchange. He spotted my shirt and told me he really enjoyed STR. I offered that you had bravely gone out on a limb (root?) and that STR had been decidedly anti-war from the start. He surprised me by glancing around, slightly hushing his tone, and saying, "Well I'm against it too, but my son's in the military and he's over there, so I'm not about to go denouncing the soldiers. I concurred, saying it was a tough position to be in, and he should understand that many of us were also anti-war yet were not going to go spit on the returning troops. We totally connected on this point.

Your site is excellent and I have found the information there to be invaluable to my creation of freedom.

Editor "Rob" brings the browser an amazing array of in-house writers and off-site articles where appropriate. His work at Strike The Root is an excellent companion to what Sniegoski and Strakon produce at The Last Ditch. For your bookmarks as well if you like sharp libertarian (anarchist?) thought and observation. Paleos can affirm and respect "Rob's" work--and will--just as in the case of the conspirators at The Last Ditch. And occasionally, the paleo Mark Dankof will show up in the pages of both sets of cynics. Strike The Root also features the photographic gems of Pierre-Paul Feyte, whose shots of beautiful landscapes are a welcome tonic after a day of grim news. The pictures are reminiscent of the mindset of Thoreau on Walden Pond.

Thank you for a great year of STR reading.  Honestly, STR is the first page I go to when I log on.  Some sites nail liberty so well in one way or another, and then turn around and promote the state in some other way.  It's always a relief for me to see that the most ruthless standards for freedom upheld across the board is the rule of thumb at STR.

I've moved over the last several years, from being what I thought was a conservative (actually and unknowingly a neocon), to being a free market anarchist, thanks in part to Antiwar.com, LewRockwell.com, and now Strike-the-Root.com.  I actually started with NRO (I know, I know), then moved to WND (slightly better), all the way on up to your site, LysanderSpooner.com, and Lew Rockwell's all on a daily basis.... 

I went out and pulled a lever for Ron Paul today even though I think that: 

a) The election is fixed so that one or the other of the ruling elite from either party is guaranteed to win,

b) even if Paul did win, the ruling elite would not leave him in place for long, and

c) voting should indeed generally be considered as an act of violence (although I think that if a vote is cast for a true libertarian, it may very well be only an act of violence against the state).

I reached this decision only after reading "The Reality of Self-Defense Voting" by Bob Jackson.  However, I am grateful for the input of Per Bylund, Jim Davies, and Wendy McElroy among others, in helping me to see the error of my ways, and the true nature of voting.  It has been a difficult decision, and I will be forever reminded of the seriousness of what I am doing should I ever go to the polls again.  Unless it is clear that the man I'm voting for is intent on tearing down coercive action on the part of any earthly government, I will not contribute.  Even so, I may never contribute again, if upon reading further at your site I determine that the Ron Pauls of this world are misguided.

Once again, thank you for all you do.  I am exceedingly grateful that I had the opportunity to be awakened, if government should ever get its hands on the Internet and silence websites like yours.  You've helped at least one person to turn around.
