"The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary." ~ H.L. Mencken
The Free Market Solution to Airport Gropings
Submitted by Michael Kleen on Fri, 2010-11-19 04:00
For all the travelers tired of being "groped" and undergoing full-body scans, there's hope. At the start of this controversy, I thought that it would be great if private security firms could take over airport security, then I found out it was possible, now this. Score one for free markets.

Well, as I understand it, airports can't really just opt out. They can hire a private firm to perform the functions of the TSA and this private firm would work under the supervision of the TSA. Not quite the same as the free market where the airports/airlines would simply be responsible for their own security without any involvement from TSA.

Now if only we could get private security firms to take over from the marines in all the countries the US currently occupies. There'd be more accountability, better service, at a better price...

Oh wait.
