Well, I think the picture is not quite so clear cut.

In 1975 you could not legally carry a gun most places; today you can in most states, and in 4 states without any kind of permit or license.

In 1975 you could not homeschool. Today you can in every state.

In 1975 your information came from controlled sources: newspapers and TV and libraries. Today there is the internet, with instant communication around the world.

In 1975 battle rifles were much more rare and less accurate than they are today. Powerful long-range rifles were almost non-existent.

In 1974, only one year earlier than the article uses as a baseline, you could not legally own gold coins at all (FDR's gold confiscation order). Today you can.

In 1973, only two years earlier than the article uses as a baseline, there was military conscription for Viet Nam. Haven't had that for a long time.
