"The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary." ~ H.L. Mencken
Economic Self-Defense

"What's the moral of this tale? The mattress is safer than any government-accessible repository of wealth. The safety comes from the private versus public nature of your mattress. This moral translates to far more than the security of your family jewels. If you own precious metals, a reserve of cash, guns, stocks of any commodity...then shut the hell up about it and, so, preserve the private nature of your 'wealth.' This is a cardinal rule of economic self-defense." (Editor's pick)
