"First they came for the Communists,
and I didn’t speak up,
because I wasn’t a Communist.
Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn’t speak up,
because I wasn’t a Jew.
Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn’t speak up,
because I was a Protestant.
Then they came for me,
and by that time there was no one
left to speak up for me."

"Frankly, the idea that torture would be sanctioned and used by the United States even occasionally is appalling. But torture is being used widely and routinely, against people who in many cases clearly have no useful information to provide and who may not even be enemy combatants but rather victims of the U.S. bounty program ? people sold into slavery, basically, to be tortured by U.S. interrogators." Column by Glen Allport.
