"The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary." ~ H.L. Mencken
Promises that Can’t Be Kept, Won’t Be: Chicago Edition
“Promises” as in pensions, retirement benefits, and other contractual items that cities & states made to their employees, but now can’t afford to pay. I wouldn’t want to be taxpayer, own property, have a business, or a be bond holder of Illinois, Chicago or Cook county when all these obligations come due and can’t be kicked down the road any more.
