Intellectual Property: If It's Property, Why No Property Tax?

I know it's always weird for libertarians to advocate property taxes, so don't misunderstand me. But this seems like a major inconsistency in IP theory and practice. The government is devoting resources (a lot of resources lately!) to protect IP, without any payment (other than small fees) from those protected.
