Political Prisoners Rot in US Prisons

“In her book titled, "The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness," Michelle Alexander called today's Jim Crow a modern-day elitist-designed racial caste system. Believing poor Blacks (and Latinos) are dangerous and economically superfluous, America's gulag became an instrument of social control.” And, I agree to a certain degree, though I see these issues more in terms of economic class than specifically race... that the goal is social control of the lowest economic classes. However, that said, the disproportionate representation of of Black and Latino peoples in prisons, jails, foster homes and assorted youth facilities is undeniable. I wish I had space to discuss that more fully here, but I don't.

What I will say is this – it saddens and frustrates me that people active on such issues almost always seem to think that getting the right people in government will solve it. Hundreds of years of government haven't solved it and never will. In my opinion, Black Separatist groups had the right ideas on how to manage their lives and their communities – don't trust a government that has always betrayed them, support each other socially and economically, philosophical principles I apply to my own life.

As for the prison system problem... We hold the solution in our hands and it damn sure isn't more government, or better people in government. It is tax revolt, refuse to give them the money they need to harass, arrest, and imprison us. Look at the news, it's right there for all to see – prisons are running out of money all over the nation and they are letting people free. Money, it's always the bottom line with these people.
