Students, Workers Ordered to Surrender Facebook Passwords

“Student athletes with the University of North Carolina, along with corrections officers in Maryland, have been subjected to an odd new policy that seems to be spreading to various employers throughout the country: social media monitoring that watches accounts from the inside.” This is exactly why it is so important to raise children to value liberty and to understand how important it is to live by your principles, knowing from the start that those principles are not for sale. No job, scholarship, educational opportunity, etc. is worth trading away a fundamental right for. And, trading away your rights doesn't just affect you, it sets a standard that allows the State to feel justified in pressing others to give up their rights, always pressing for more and more control. So, when you submit to such things, you hurt other people, too. There are always more opportunities for principled people that do the right thing.
