"The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary." ~ H.L. Mencken

This article is not very believable.
Only unless you believe that butterflys in China flapping their wings makes a difference.
Conspicuously absent in this type discussion is a land mass identified by state lovers as "Switzerland". The governing agency there is nondescript by most standards, (weak "central government"). Adults -- both male and female, I think -- are encouraged to be armed to the teeth and to have ongoing training in whetting their skills in the use of those firearms. There seems to be a "law" to that effect, but I rather question its enforceability due to weak or nonexistent governing "powers".
Switzerland, as I understand it, has an extremely low "crime rate", and is never attacked by anybody. I suspect it is for the same reason I refrain from attacking nests of rattle snakes and yellow jackets.
